While Dhule district, Maharashtra, is known for a large number of dealers in animal fodder, who supply to cattle owners in small towns, here Kamala is carrying a headload for her own household livestock.
Crossing the rivulet in Sakri to get to her home a mile away, she says, “Fodder is expensive for those who have to buy it. We grow it in our fields alongside the crop and use it or store it for our cattle. We only sell if we have extra, but that happens rarely these days, as drought has been at our doorstep for some years.”
