This World Diabetes Day is the first of a three-year campaign to focus on healthy living and diabetes, says the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). There are 382 million people living with diabetes worldwide and by 2035, one in ten will have the disease. A further 316 million people are at high risk of type 2 diabetes, which could rise to almost 500 million within a generation. The pandemic is menacing because it remains hidden. Up to half of all people with diabetes globally remain undiagnosed, the IDF says.

India, with the second largest number of people with diabetes, needs to take urgent action.
