PAN-CITY INITIATIVES

Based on citizen engagement efforts, three priorities have been drawn up for pan-city initiatives: transport, tourism and solid waste management. The city plans to issue Smart Mobility Cards, which can be used across modes of transport – on the metro and on buses, and even at parking meters. For tourists, a proposed ‘Jaipur Pass’ will combine the features of the Smart Mobility Card along with access to tourist sites. The proposed solid waste management system envisages efficient door-to-door collection of waste, registration of recyclers and rag-pickers, waste bin monitoring, a central module for promoting waste segregation.
AREA-BASED DEVEOPMENT

About 706 acres in the walled city, encompassing the tourist hub of Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, the City Palace, Albert Hall Museum, Ram Niwas Bagh, and Johaari Bazaar, have been chosen for area-based development. It envisages corridors for non-motorised transport (including bikes) and pedestrianisation; barrier-free access to monuments; smart signages and information kiosks; energy-efficient lighting; rainwater harvesting; CCTV coverage; and air quality monitoring sensors. Additionally, the Talkatora lake is to be desilted, and provision made for a water show. Solar power will account for 10 per cent of the areas’ energy requirement.
FUNDING OPTIONS
Smart City grants from the Central and State governments will add up to Rs 980 crore; convergence with Central- and State-level schemes will bring in an additional Rs 407 crore. PPP, loans and borrowings will account for the rest.
