A fortnight of Mother’s Day campaigns — short on syrupy, rife with humour and relatable situations

Actor Neena Gupta and her daughter Masaba bring a smile to your lips in Myntra’s Mother’s Day campaign. Neena asks Masaba what she will gift her for Mother’s Day and there follows some hilarious scenes as Masaba’s wild suggestions meet with scathing takedowns from her mom, until an exasperated Neena says all she wants is an outfit. The mom-daughter duo happily scroll through Myntra’s pages and, of course, there are witty last words when Neena flaunts her outfit.

Spotless action

A test of popularity of campaigns these days is how viral they go on WhatsApp. By that yardstick, Safed Detergent scores a big hit with its Mother’s Day campaign, which shows a mother rushing to a school and into the principal’s office with a girl student. She complains to the principal about a boy who is harassing the girl, urging him to take action. The twist in the tale is that she turns out to be the mother of the boy! A well-crafted film.

Zara’s fashionable fifty

Fast-fashion brand Zara turned 50 and celebrated the milestone with a spectacular short film created by fashion photographer Steven Meisel, featuring 50 supermodels — including iconic names like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington. Styled by Karl Templer, the models wear pieces from Zara centred around monochrome classicism of tuxedo dressing. The models sing and dance to the tune of Donna Summer’s I Feel Love — coming together at the end in a beautiful group photo. It’s a lovely tribute to a brand that has created an undeniable impact in the fashion world.
