Unable to get a design or colour for your refrigerator that will go with your room’s décor? Or, an AC that will go with your walls? Well, there is help at hand.

For, Godrej Appliances is planning to come out with customised appliance colour and design that will match your walls or interior décor. According to Kamal Nandi, Business Head & Executive Vice-President, the customisation options will be available to online buyers initially.

The pilot is likely to be launched by April; with a full-scale launch around June-July. Such customisation will obviously come at an extra cost.

“Internationally, there are companies who offer customised colour and design selections. And, by mid-2015 we’ll come up with this feature especially for online purchases,” he added.

Premium category

The company had sometime back taken up a similar initiative for its World Series appliances where it printed customised decals. But, somehow the initiative failed to become popular. This apart, Godrej is also looking to roll out a range of premium offerings across its four core categories – microwaves, washing machines, air-conditioners and refrigerators. Currently, there are no plans for diversification.

According to Nandi, the company is looking to close the current fiscal at around ₹3,000 crore. It had reported a turnover of ₹2,100 crore last year.

“For the first nine months of the fiscal, we have seen a 43 per cent rise in value and 35 per cent rise in volume,” he said. The company, since January, had initiated a 2-3 per cent hike in product prices mainly on account of rupee depreciation and excise cut. “We have made an appeal to the Centre to re-introduce excise duty benefits,” he added.
