Ahead of commissioning of some of the new facilities later this month, Chairman of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) C.S. Verma visited IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) on Saturday at Burnpur in West Bengal.
The integrated steel plant, which will produce 2.5 million tonnes of crude steel a year, will see full commissioning in March next year.
Verma reviewed the progress of work for the ISP’s Rs 20,000-crore modernisation and expansion programme. The project, which is delayed by around a year, will replace all old ISP facilities.
“We need to accelerate our pace for early commissioning to uphold the country’s trust on us,” he told the project managers.
According to an ISP release, SAIL Chairman inspected the ready-to-be-commissioned coke and sinter dispatch system, coke oven Battery No.11, power & blowing station, basic oxygen furnace and CCP as also wire and rod mill.
The new blast furnace is scheduled to be ready by the end of this fiscal.
