258 villages electrified last week: Power Ministry

A total of 258 villages were electrified last week (from February 15 to February 21) under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana.

In the last week, 120 villages in Odisha, 64 in Jharkhand, 41 in Assam, 19 in Madhya Pradesh, eight in Rajasthan and six in Chhattisgarh were electrified.

Till date, 5,537 villages have been electrified. The target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2015, was to electrify the remaining 18,452 villages by May 1, 2018.

“Of the remaining 12,915 villages, a total of 9,026 villages are to be electrified through grid, 3,381 villages are to be electrified off-grid where grid solutions are out of reach due to geographical barriers, and 508 villages are to be electrified by the state government,” an official statement of the Ministry of Power said on Monday.
