GoAir has firmed up an order for acquiring another 72 Airbus A-320 New Engine Option aircraft more popularly called the Airbus A-320 NEO. The list price of the 72 aircraft is estimated at $ 8 billion although airlines receive hefty discounts when the number of aircraft ordered is large as in the case of the GoAir order.

In a statement, the European aircraft manufacturer, Airbus said that the agreement was reached on December 30 last year and doubles GoAir’s firm order bookings for the aircraft type to 144. The first of the 72 aircraft will be delivered in 2020.

Mumbai-based GoAir took delivery of its first A-320 NEO aircraft in June last year. The aircraft is powered by Pratt and Whitney engines. On December 30 the airline reached an agreement to double the number of NEO aircraft that it will acquire to 144 by ordering another 72 which is being announced now.

The A-320 NEO family of aircraft incorporates latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklet wing tip devices, which together deliver more than 15 per cent in fuel savings from day one and 20 per cent by 2020 with further cabin innovations.
