Sunday was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 67th birthday. And this is how BJP president Amit Shah suggests you celebrate.

In his blog Shah said: “Seva is the best way to celebrate the birthday of Pradhan Sewak Shri Narendra Modi.” Urging you to devote this day and the coming days to a mission that is very special to the PM, the Swachh Bharat Mission, Shah says, “Let us strengthen the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement with our active and continuous participation so that we can fulfil Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a clean India.”

“I urge you all to organise or join any cleanliness initiative and share your photos on the Narendra Modi Mobile App. This way, others will see the good work you did and will get inspired to emulate you,” Shah says.

Do what you do

Company Secretaries are known to think out-of-the-box when it comes to their professional work. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, a creation of Parliament, went one step ahead when it took to Twitter to extend birthday greetings to the Prime Minister (#HappyBirthdayPM) — “ICSI extends warm greetings to the most dynamic leader of India”.

Clearly, only they do what they do. Remember the tagline that ICSI used few years back? “I am a member of ICSI; only I do what I do” – A Company Secretary.

Clean sheen

Seeing how almost all the ministers and ministries seemed to be on a cleanliness drive, each trying to outdo the other in their efforts, made you wish every day was Narendra Modi’s birthday.

The ministry of tourism organised the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign at India Gate. Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism Alphons Kannanthanam along with senior officers of his ministry participated in the campaign.

The Prime Minister has called upon the nation to begin a campaign, ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ (Cleanliness is Service), from September 15 to October 2 and the tourism ministry has prepared an action plan to launch this campaign at various important tourist sites across the country. In addition, the ministry is also observing a ‘Swacchata Pakhwada’ during this period.

Can we expect that ministers and ministries will also come clean, if you know what we mean?

Monica Geller for minister

You have to hand it to the internet-dwellers — their ingenuity is something else.

The latest in India’s cyberspace is an image of Courteney Cox, famed for her role as Monica Geller in the hit television series, Friends , has been circulating on the internet through social media websites. So are you asking what’s new about that?

Well, in this avatar, Monica is on an Indian election poster, seeking votes to become the Swachhata (cleanliness) Minister. Those who are familiar with Friends will know that Monica is a cleanliness freak with a passion for cooking.

So here she is, clad in a khadi sari, looking perfectly capable of leading a rally for cleanliness. If this were not virtual reality, who knows, she might well have garnered the votes, come eleciton time!

Image makeover

Now that the goods and services tax (GST) has been implemented, the Central Board of Excise and Customs is working on an image makeover of sorts.

The board has already been renamed the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs. It has now invited designs for a new logo from its officials and hopes that the re-branding will be done over the next few months.
