Australian miners were awaiting changes in the policy road map for the Indian mining sector. Melisa Carter, Trade Adviser – resources to the Australian Government, said that many Australian miners and junior explorers have flocked to Indonesia and African countries in the recent years. However, India’s country risk held them back.
Rio Tinto has been engaged in exploration of diamond in India. Some mine lease owners have of late been looking for services of mine developer and operators in the Indian mining sector. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Australia, Australian mining and mining services companies seem to have renewed interest.
Tom Calder, Australian Trade Commissioner in India, said some 20 mining equipment, technology and services companies will participate at the International Mining and Machinery Exhibition, 2014, in Kolkata from Wednesday. The Governments of Queensland and Western Australia would also participate in the event to attract Indian investments to the resource rich States.
