Daikin Air-Conditioning India Pvt Ltd, presently selling 4 lakh air-conditioners a year in the country, is striving to double its market share within two to three years, according to Mr. N.K Rao, the General Manager (South).

After inaugurating a Daikin showroom here on Friday, he said, of the four lakh units sold in the country, the South was contributing 28 per cent and in Andhra Pradesh 45,000 ACs were being sold a year. He said the company, with a market share of 11 per cent in the country, was in the third position. He said the company was selling air-conditioners in the range of 0.75 tonnes to 3,000 tonnes and the basic price started from Rs 18,000 (0.75 tonne). “We have introduced inverter technology. The initial cost of these ACs is slightly higher, but they consume 50 per cent less power and, therefore, they are of great benefit to the customer. Many discerning customers are, therefore, opting for such ACs,” he said.

Such an AC of 1.5 tonne capacity would cost Rs 45,000 as against the normal price of Rs 30,000-32,000. The power-saving would more than make up for the higher initial cost, he added.

Mr N.K Rao said the company's manufacturing unit was located at Neemrana near Jaipur in Rajahsthan. The company appointed 400 dealers in South India, 120 of them in Andhra Pradesh and eight in Visakhapatnam.

“We have opened the second showroom here today and tomorrow (Saturday) we are opening another showroom at Moghalrajapuram in Vijayawada. It will be the second in that city,” he said.

Mr H.K Muralidhar, the Head (AP), also participated in the event.
