Gas leak at Surat chemical unit

One worker died, while eight others were affected after leakage of gas at a chemical unit at Sachin industrial estate here on Saturday, police said.

“Sandeep Karve, a worker at Anupam India Rasayan Ltd died after an incident of gas leakage there last night,” they said.

“Eight other workers at the unit were also taken ill after inhaling the gas and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital,” they said. Karve, a resident of Jalgaon in Maharashtra, was declared dead on being brought to Surat Civil hospital for treatment.

A team of forensic experts and police officials have reached the site and investigations are under way.
