The West Bengal Chief Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, on Friday defended Shah Rukh Khan and appealed to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to re-consider their 5-year ban on the entry of the superstar to the Wankhede stadium.
Shah Rukh, Bengal's brand ambassador and co-owner of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, is alleged to have been involved in a brawl at the Wankhede with security personnel and MCA officials, after the KKR-Mumbai match on Wednesday night (May 16).
“I appeal (to MCA) to please re-consider the decision,” Ms Banerjee told reporters at the Writers Buildings.
According to her, brouhaha was being created over a small incident and that the decision was “undemocratic.”
The outburst, she said, might have been an “emotional decision” prompted by the security guards jostling children who had accompanied the superstar. “It is not a battle between states. We all love Maharastra, Sachin and Shah Rukh,” she added.
Ms Banerjee, however, did not specify whether she would take up the matter with the Maharashtra Govt.
