Unit-1 of Odisha Power Generation Corporation’s IB Thermal Power Station has achieved a record by running uninterruptedly for 95 days.

The record was achieved on March 27 as the unit was running uninterruptedly from December 23, 2012, a company release said.

By completing 95 days on Wednesday, the unit, which produces 210 mw of power, broke its previous record of 94 days of uninterrupted operation achieved in 2005-06, it said.

The second unit (Unit-2) which also produces 210 mw of power has been running uninterruptedly for 33 days now. It had achieved the record of running 176 days uninterruptedly in 2005, the release said.

The record of uninterrupted run for IB Thermal Power Station’s two units combined is 65 days which was achieved in 2008-09. As on date the uninterrupted running days of the two stations combined is 33 days.

Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), which started as a state run company, established IB Thermal Power Station having two units of 210 MW each in the Ib valley area of Jharsuguda District.

The Units have become operational since 1994 (1st Unit) and 1996 (2nd Unit) respectively.

The entire generation from these units is committed to Gridco on the basis of a long-term power purchase agreement. As a part of the reform in the energy sector of the state, 49% of the equity was divested in favour of AES Corporation, USA in early 1999.

OPGC has established its credentials as a successful power generating company both technically and commercially by providing safe, clean & reliable power, it said.
