Renault Nissan Alliance India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) has produced more than a one lakh petrol engines in the last 15 months, according to a press release from the company.
RNAIPL's car plant near Chennai, earlier crossed a milestone by producing one lakh Micra cars in 13 months, has now produced over one lakh, 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre HR12DE petrol engines as of last month.
The plant started manufacturing the petrol engine in May 2010. It has also started manufacturing the 1.5 litre petrol engine for the new mid-size Sedan Sunny.
The petrol engine range is part of the project called ‘Nissan Green Project 2010,' which is an initiative taken by the company to reduce the carbon footprint of its cars. The plant currently manufactures the Nissan Micra and Renault Fluence. Production of Nissan Sunny and Renault Koleos will commence shortly.
The global alliance between Nissan and Renault operates in India as RNAIPL, which is responsible for manufacturing of all Nissan Products in India. The plant was inaugurated in March 2010. It has an initial capacity of two lakh units a year and has plans to reach four lakh units at full capacity.
