Germany-based manufacturer of outdoor power tools Stihl Inc will launch a new range of battery powered tools such as chain saws and hedge cutters in India by the middle of 2011. The Group, which began its Indian operations in 2005 with the setting up of Andreas Stihl Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary selling electric power tools, has moved into a new larger facility at Chakan. This has a larger warehouse, administrative block, a training centre, engine testing and a service facility. Mr Hans Peter Stihl, Chairman of the Board of Stihl AG said, “We are opening a new section in the power tools business for professional use.” The battery operated tools will complement Stihl's existing range, he said, adding that a single Lithium ion battery pack will help operate a dozen tools. The company plans to begin with a range of six to seven tools by the middle of this year and add five to six in 2012. Mr Pramod Wadpally, Country Manager, Andreas Stihl, said that the new facility will help them offer ex-stock delivery of more products, accessories and spare parts along with the shortening of delivery periods.
