German car maker Volkswagen on Tuesday opened its regional training centre in collaboration with education group Rayat and Bahra at its campus here, aimed to help dealership employees acquiring a set of skills at par with Group’s global standards.

“The ever growing auto industry has made it imperative for good resources to be present in the industry. The regional training centre will enable us to provide quality manpower at our dealerships which will lead to enhanced customer satisfaction,” Volkswagen Group Sales India MD Mr Maik Stephan told reporters here today.

Under the regional training centre, Volkswagen Group will conduct different training programmes for their dealership employees and it has also provided required tools and equipment to the educational institute for training purposes.

At present, training for Volkswagen Group dealership employees is available at its plant in Chakan in Pune and Skoda India in Aurangabad.

With German car maker deepening its presence in India’s growing car market, Volkswagen in near future also plans to launch three more such training centres in South, East and North.

Volkswagen Group has posted whopping growth 270 per cent in sales during January and June this year in the country by selling 55,000 units compared to sales in corresponding period of last year.

Volkswagen Group has 170 outlets across the country and it has plans to expand its dealership network to 200 by year end.

The company also launched its Volkswagen Group Technical Education Programme (VG-TAP) at the Rayat and Bahra centre which would give add on certificate course for diploma and ITI students of Rayat and Bahra University.

Asked about any impact of rising rate of interest and fuel prices on growth of car market, Mr Stephan said that there would be a negative impact on size of luxury car market, which constituted one per cent of total car sales in India.
