Apollo Hospitals’ fourth super-speciality hospital in Chennai is set to start operations in the next quarter.
A soft launch of the 250-bed hospital at Ayanambakkam in suburban West Chennai was done recently with a baby birthing procedure. But the hospital will be commissioned only by January, said Akhileshwaran Krishnan, CFO.
The total cost of the project is Rs 125 crore.
The hospital, which is waiting for equipment and a final finish, will be operationalised with 100 beds to start with. It will ramp up to full capacity in six-nine months, said Krishnan.
Apollo Hospitals already operates three full-fledged super-speciality hospitals in Chennai, with a total of 1,100 beds. (Besides these, Apollo also runs smaller clinics and day-care centres in the city.)
The fourth super-speciality hospital will cater to the unmet needs of the middle-class population in West Chennai, said Krishnan. “This suburban area is developing well with a huge residential population. The requirement here is a big hospital of the stature of Apollo. The new hospital will also help decongest our existing facilities which are reaching full capacity,” he said.
The hospital has been built next to Apollo’s College of Nursing in Ayanambakkam.
The Ayanambakkam hospital will have all major specialities such as cardiology, neurology and orthopaedics. “Oncology will be added in 6-12 months,” said Krishnan. Pricing at this facility will be at a “discount” to the other Apollo hospitals.
