Bajaj Auto Ltd has witnessed a decline in two-wheeler and commercial vehicle sales in January this year compared to the same month in the previous fiscal.
But what has come as a breather for the company was the pick-up in exports, which jumped by 7 per cent making January 2014 exports the highest for the month ever.
In its filings with the stock exchange, BAL said its motorcycle sales fell 7 per cent to 2,81,390 units in January 2014 compared with 3,01,361 vehicles in January last year. Commercial vehicle sales fell 20 per cent to 36,781 units (46,263).
Total vehicle sales during the month declined to 3,18,171 vehicles from 3,47,624 vehicles in the same month last year, a fall of 8 per cent.
But exports came as a relief to Bajaj Auto as it picked up to 1,37,644 vehicles compared with 1,28,482 units in January last year, a 7 per cent increase.
In the April-January period of the 2013-2014 FY, sales of motorcycles and commercial vehicles had declined by 10 per cent and 8 per cent, respectively.
Total vehicle sales in the current financial year so far had fallen to 32,52,466 units (36,03,544). However, the total exports at 13,10,634 vehicles was higher by one per cent, against 13,10,634 vehicles exported during the corresponding period in 2012-13 FY.
However, the relatively weak numbers did not impact the stock price with BAL shares gaining Rs 24.95 to Rs 1,927.75 on the BSE this morning.
