BGR Energy has won a Rs 1,855-crore order from Meja Urja Nigam Pvt Ltd for the supply of super-critical boilers.

Meja Urja is a joint venture of NTPC and UPRVUNL (Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd).

The 2x660 boilers would be set up at Meja in Uttar Pradesh and the order is valued at 109.79 million euro and a rupee component of Rs 1,121 crore (about Rs 1,855 crore in all), the engineering, procurement and construction company said in a statement.

The stipulated time for execution of the project is 48 months and the contract provides for price variation and foreign exchange variation risk is “fully protected”, it said.

In February, BGR Energy Systems emerged as the lowest bidder in the NTPC bulk tender for the supply of 11x660 MW super-critical boilers. These projects are located at Solapur, Mouda (in Maharashtra), Meja (Uttar Pradesh), Nabinagar (Bihar) and Raghunathpur (West Bengal).

In April, the company received the Letter of Award for supply of super-critical boilers for Solapur. The letter of award for Raghunathpur is expected this month, it said.

“The company has already commenced engineering activities for the Solapur project,” BGR Energy CMD, Mr B. G. Raghupathy, said.

Meanwhile, BGR Energy said it has floated a new company — BGR Boilers Pvt Ltd, in joint venture with Hitachi Power, Europe, for transfer of technology and equity participation.

BGR Energy holds 70 per cent, while Hitachi has the remaining equity in the joint venture, it said.

BGR Boilers has already signed technical collaboration agreements for transfer of technology for 660 MW, 700 MW, 800 MW and 1,000 MW super-critical boilers. It is in the process of setting up a manufacturing facility, it said.
