Jaguar Land Rover has said that it will invest £355 million in a plant to manufacture low-emission four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines in the UK. The plant will come up in Staffordshire, near Wolverhapmton.
According to a press release, the decision to invest in a new engine plant follows a successful Frankfurt International Motor Show and recent discussions between Jaguar Land Rover and UK Government ministers.
The announcement of the investment by Jaguar Land Rover, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, was marked by a visit to the company's Solihull vehicle production plant by Mr Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister, and Dr Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills. The engine plant will be built at i54 South Staffordshire, a business park near Wolverhampton in the UK's Midlands.
The release quoted Dr Ralf Speth, Chief Executive Officer, Jaguar Land Rover, as saying that the company will design, engineer and manufacture a new family of advanced engines. "As we invest £1.5 billion a year for the next five years on new product development, expanding our engine range will help us realise the full global potential of the Jaguar and Land Rover brands."
The engine plant is expected to create up to 750 highly-skilled engineering and manufacturing posts at JLR.
