JCB India on Tuesday launched a new Bharat Stage III emission-compliant diesel engine for its off-road vehicles.

For the development of the engine, the company has invested Rs 130 crore. The engine will be manufactured from the company's facility in Ballabhgarh, Haryana from April and the engines will be fitted in JCB vehicles only.

“India is JCB's largest market and the group's commitment continues with this first specifically designed off-highway engine. The engine is specifically adapted for Indian conditions,” said Mr Vipin Sondhi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, JCB India.

“The new engines will come in a range of 76 HP to 150 HP. From April 1 all our vehicles in this range will have the BS III engine,” he added.

The company has an installed capacity to manufacture 40,000 engines a year at Ballabhgarh. Mr Sondhi said the company will primarily use these engines for the domestic market, while later it may explore possibilities to supply to other JCB group companies.

Commenting on the company's sales, Mr Sondhi said that company had sold about 21,000 units last year and in 2011 it expects to grow by 15 per cent. JCB India has two manufacturing facilities at Ballabhgarh and Pune with a total installed capacity to produce 30,000 units of various machines a year.
