JSW Steel has reported a 47 per cent rise in crude steel production at 9.91 lakh tonnes in July 2013 against 6.76 lakh tonnes in July 2012.

“JSW Steel Ltd reports monthly crude steel production of 9.91 lakh tonnes showing a growth of 47 per cent in July 2013 at its three manufacturing locations, Vijayanagar, Salem and Dolvi, all together,” the company said in a statement today.

The capacity utilisation was lower at Vijayanagar works due to shutdown of one of its corex furnaces for relining and capacity enhancement and the same is expected to recommence production by September-end, the company said.

Meanwhile, production of flat products, which find application in automotive and consumer durables among others, was up by 64 per cent at 7.96 lakh tonnes against 4.85 lakh tonnes over the corresponding month of 2012.

Long products, mainly used in the construction sector, saw an almost 31 per cent rise in production in July 2013 to 1.86 lakh tonnes from 1.42 lakh tonnes during the same month last year.

JSW Steel’s shares were trading at Rs 522.40 a piece, down 1.73 per cent on the BSE.
