Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest carmaker, has posted a 9.8 per cent increase in total sales at 93,988 vehicles in September 2012. The company sold 85,565 units during the same month a year ago.
The company, controlled by Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp, posted a 12.7 per cent increase in domestic sales at 88,801 (78,816) units, while the passenger vehicle sales rose 3.4 per cent to 68,957 (66,667), it said in a statement.
The New Delhi-based firm, which also makes commercial vehicles, registered a 23.1 per cent fall in exports at 5,187 (6,749) units.
The shutdown at its Manesar factory, following employee unrest at its Manesar plant, resulted in a production loss of about $250 million during July and August.
Ford India sales down 8%
Car-maker Ford India today reported 8.29 per cent decline in its total sales in September this year at 9,418 units.
The company had sold a total of 10,270 units in the same month last year.
Domestic sales also declined marginally to 7,794 units in September this year as against 7,801 units in the same month last year, Ford India said in a statement.
Commenting on the sales performance, Ford India President and Managing Director, Michael Boneham, said: “We have seen customer confidence improving with the start of the festive season, and are fully prepared to handle pent-up demand during the festive period with our enhanced capacity for diesel engines at Chennai.”
The company’s exports saw a decline of 34.22 per cent to 1,624 as against 2,469 units in the same month last year.
Suzuki Motorcycle sales up 31.5%
Two-wheeler maker Suzuki Motorcycle India today reported 31.53 per cent increase in its sales at 38,267 units in September.
The company had sold 29,094 units in the same month last year, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) said in a statement.
Commenting on the sales growth, SMIPL Vice—President (Sales and Marketing) Atul Gupta said: “We have received a good response from the market for all our products. The growing customer satisfaction has led to positive word—of— mouth in the market.”
Eicher trucks and buses recorded 31.9 per cent lower sales in September 2012 as against the year-ago period. The biggest drop for Eicher came in the commercial vehicle segment, which fell by 27 per cent to 3,026 units in September 2012 from 4,152 units in the same month last year Other categories like the domestic bus segment exhibited growth of 11.3 per cent.
The two-wheeler major, TVS Motor Company too registered a drop of 22 per cent in total sales from 219,369 units registered in September last year to 170,097 units in September 2012.
Unlike its two-wheeler offerings, the company’s three wheeler segment registered a record growth of 36 per cent to 5,005 units in September 2012 against 3,679 units in the same month of the previous year.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 12,115 units in September this year, a drop of 5 per cent when compared with 12,807 units in the corresponding month last year. Bucking the general trend, it’s models like Innova and
Fortuner registered a 23 per cent and 21 per cent growth during the month. Etios series dropped by 25 per cent at 4,440 units as compared with 5,926 units in the corresponding month last year.
