Mercedes-Benz has launched its latest C-Class diesel in the South Indian market, starting with Hyderabad.
It outlined plans to launch 15 models in 2015 to further consolidate the Indian market.
The C 220 CDI Style is priced at Rs 40.61 lakh and C 220 CDI Avantgarde at Rs 43.66 lakh ex-showroom in Hyderabad.
Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said that the company has number of cars set for launch during the year and the diesel C 220 would be attractive for buyers in the country, particularly South India where diesel cars account for a major chunk.
The company says that the diesel car provides segment highest mileage of 19.27 km per litre. It comes with five driving modes.
"With the launch of the C-220 CDI we now present the complete portfolio of the new generation C-Class in South Indian markets. The commencement of the local production of the new C-220 Avantgarde petrol within three months of its India debut, reiterates our commitment of providing our customers fascinating products which are made in India," Kern said.
South accounts for 90 per cent sales in the diesel market.
The company clocked total sales of 10,201 units in 2014, registering a growth of 13 per over 2013 in a luxury car market which closed last year with a modest growth of 3 per cent to close at 32,000 units.
The CIass range is commanding a wait-list of several weeks.
