Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest car-maker, recorded a 14 per cent increase in sales at 1,14,825 units in May against 1,00,925 units in the year-ago period. Last month, the company sold 1,02,359 cars in the domestic market against 90,560 and exported 12,466 units.

Tata Motors also reported rise in sales, driven by the the new launches of the Zest and the Bolt.

“The sales of the passenger cars in May were higher by 32 per cent at 9,176 units compared to 6,932 units in May 2014. The utility vehicles sales declined 15 per cent to 1,962 units. The company’s sales from exports were 4,678 units, 47 per cent higher against 3,191 vehicles in May 2014,” Tata Motors said.

Honda Cars India Ltd saw 1 per cent growth in domestic sales at 13,431 units in May against 13,362 units in the corresponding month last year. It also exported a total of 655 units last month.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor said its plant was shut down from May 29 to June 6 for regular maintenance, and hence production was limited. “The impact will thus be felt in the next month’s production as well,” said N Raja, Director and Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd sold 37,450 units and exported 15,065 units in May.

M&M’s domestic sales (passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles) fell 6 per cent to 33,369 units last month against 35,499 units in May 2014.

Ford India saw domestic car sales fall 22 per cent, while exports grew to 6,988 vehicles against 6,235 units in May 2014.

Two-wheelers

Hero MotoCorp Ltd posted 5.4 per cent lower sales at 5,69,876 two-wheelers in May against 6,02,481 units a year ago.

Honda Motorcycle’s total sales grew 3 per cent to 3,67,226 units against 3,55,530 in May last year. Royal Enfield saw a 48 per cent growth in exports at 739 units and 41 per cent growth in domestic sales at 34,615.
