Come Friday and New Delhi will see Osamu Suzuki, Chairman Suzuki Motor Company; Takeshi Uchiyamada (Toyota Motor Corporation), Chen Zhixin (SAIC Motor), Euisun Chung, Vice-Chairman, Hyundai Motor Company and some of the other global auto giants showcasing their electric cars.
A thing, which is synonymous with auto events, will now be seen at the NITI Aayog’s MOVE Summit.
However, one of the biggest names in the electric car sector right now — Tesla or its founder Elon Musk — would not be there. Though reasons for his absence were not known.
Nissan Motor and Hyundai have specially airlifted their global electric cars to display here at the summit, sources in the know told BusinessLine .
Nissan’s latest model
For instance, Nissan has airlifted the latest version of its globally acclaimed Leaf 2 from the UK for the display at the show on September 7-8. Similarly, Hyundai has brought the Kona electric SUV.
“The Leaf 2, which is also going to be launched next year in India, has arrived from the UK, was airlifted and got customs clearance. It will be showcased at the summit on Friday-Saturday,” a person in the know said.
Similarly, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are also showcasing some of the future-ready products at the show. “We will be showcasing an electric bus at the show and all the digital experience of connected cars and concepts,” a company official said, adding that there will be ‘One Tata’ info-graphic display also to showcase future mobility.
M&M will also put its latest electric three-wheeler ‘Treo’, which was also showcased at the Auto Expo in February this year.
The country’s largest passenger vehicle maker Maruti Suzuki India is expected to showcase some digitally-sound platforms and also battery technology that Suzuki Motor (Japan) has been working on jointly with Toshiba and Denso for manufacturing lithium-ion batteries.
According to sources, Suzuki may also showcase a concept car at the summit.
Apart from such displays during the two-day event, some of the global leaders from the auto industry are coming and will be sharing the stage with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the inaugural address.
The MOVE Summit is going to showcase innovation and platforms to shape the future of mobility and various stakeholders from across the sectors of mobility and transportation will gather to discuss ways ahead and how to revolutionise transport industry.
