Tata Power on Monday said the first 800-MW unit of its flagship 4,000 MW Mundra UMPP has achieved full capacity utilisation and commercial date of operation would be announced soon.
The 4,000 MW Mundra plant in Gujarat is the country’s first Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP).
The first 800 MW unit of Mundra project achieved full load on February 25.
“Unit 1 was synchronised with the national grid on January 8, 2012. The Commercial Date of Operation of the unit will be declared shortly,” Tata Power said in a statement.
It said the unit has been ready for synchronisation since June 29, 2011, awaiting transmission evacuation system from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. The system was commissioned on September 29.
“The project is on schedule and we will be announcing commissioning soon,” Tata Power Managing Director Mr Anil Sardana said.
Mundra UMPP would have five units, each having a capacity of 800 MW. The work on other four units is also on track and progressing well, the statement said.
“The achievement of full load capacity of unit 1, India’s first 800 MW sized super-critical unit is a significant milestone not only for Mundra UMPP but for the country,” Mr Sardana said.
The Mundra project utilises super critical boiler technology that is environment friendly. Power generated from the plant would be supplied to Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab.
