Online business education provider myBskool.com and Great Lakes Institute of Management have tied up to offer a Massive Open Online Course in business administration.

Over 20 new courses, with content including videos of lectures by Great Lakes faculty and seminars by guest speakers from foreign universities, will be hosted on the myBskool website. The courses are free of charge.

“I believe technology-enabled learning will be a crucial tool in meeting the requirement of 10 million frontline and middle-level managers the country will need by 2025,” said Swaminathan K, Chief Executive Officer, myBskool.com.

He said such online ventures are a viable alternative to distance education in management, which constitute 60-70 per cent of the ₹7,000-crore management education market in the country.

The first tie-up of myBskool was in 2011 with Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad to offer an one-year management programme.

In January 2013, Indian Institute of Management Ranchi came in the fold with a 100-day management programme.

Cloud-based platform

Offering all its courses for free on a cloud-based platform, myBskool.com hopes to garner revenue through certification.

It offered to assess and certify the learning of its customers four months ago, and 4,500 of its base of 5 lakh learners have gone for it. Each certification costs about $100.

Prof. Bala V Balchandran, Founder and Dean of the Great Lakes Institute, says the course will have shorter videos of 7-8 minutes as opposed to longer lectures in keeping with dwindling attention span of youngsters.
