After it successfully marketed the Kwid 800cc, Renault India on Monday launched the bigger version of the car — with 1-litre engine (SCe). It is priced (introductory ex-showroom) at ₹3.83 lakh (RXT) and ₹3.96 lakh (RXT optional), and is just ₹22,000 more than the smaller version.

The 800cc Kwid is priced in the range of ₹2.64 lakh-₹3.73 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It has been a success product for the French company in India after the Duster and the company has already retailed over 1.65 lakh units of Kwid since its launch last year.

The newer version will offer more powerful option to customers looking to purchase cars in the compact hatchback segment, the company said.

“With this launch, we look forward to welcoming more customers into the Renault family as we endeavour to aggressively build our presence in India,” Sumit Sawhney, Country Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Renault India Operations, said.

Some of the features of the car include seven-inch touchscreen media navigation system, digital instrument cluster, one-touch lane change indicator, radio speed dependent on speed control and pro-sense seat belt pre-tensioners with load limiters.

It has a boot capacity of 300-litres, ergo-smart cabin, multiple storage spaces, upper segment dimensions and interior space, the company said. Built with 98 per cent localisation, the car will have low-cost of maintenance, the company said.

“Our roadmap for India is very clear, with an immediate goal of achieving a market share of over five per cent by the end of this year,” Sawhney said adding that Renault India has already started selling the Kwid in Sri Lanka and plans to launch it in Nepal later this month. From early next year, manufacturing of the model will begin in other markets as well.
