Cold chain equipment company Rockwool Industries Limited has commissioned its second manufacturing plant near Medchal in Telangana, conforming to Indian Green Building Council Platinum factory rating.

The Hyderabad-based company, which has developed a number of energy-efficient cooling products, is set to introduce solar-powered refrigeration and cooling systems in partnership with a multi-national corporation.

Addressing a press conference, Ashok K Gupta, Managing Director of Rockwell Industries Limited, said the company invested Rs 28 crore on the new manufacturing plant close to the existing plant at Medchal with a capacity to manufacture 500 units per day per shift. The first plant has a capacity to manufacture 350 machines per shift.

The company, which closed the last financial year with a turnover of Rs 85 crore, is looking to cross the Rs 150 crore turnover mark this year with enhanced capacity and a new family of products, including solar- powered products developed for a German company. “We are also working with Coca-Cola for cooling systems and are in the process of developing chillers for milk,” he said.

With a new manufacturing plant, the company is now in the process of enhancing its presence across the country to offer its energy-efficient products, while also meeting the requirements of its existing clientele.

Referring to the investments made to make the new factory green and conform to the Indian Green Building Council Platinum rating, Gupta said the company has set up rooftop solar systems and a 1.5 mw wind mill to meet the power requirement. The entire factory is lit by natural light most of the day, all these making the building green.

M. Anand, Principal Counsellor, IGBC, said the company was rated Platinum as it secured 84 points of the 100 marks with its energy and water conservation measures. The factory is backed by solar panels and wind farm, meeting more than its day to day consumption requirements.
