“2014 will be the year of curved UHD TVs”, said Rajeev Bhutani, MD, Sales of Samsung India, while launching Samsung’s first curved UHD TV recently at the Samsung Forum at Bali.

“Curved UHD will drive the next wave of change in the TV industry,” he said.

Unveiling the 78-inch curved UHD TV, Rajeev Bhutani said the curved design enabled a more realistic and true-to-life viewing experience with improved viewing angles, even in different viewing positions, so everyone watching TV has the best seat in the house.

He said Samsung’s curved TVs were the “most curved TVs in the world” and had the “auto depth enhancer” feature, creating a “3D effect without glasses”.

He said the proprietary technology converted the HD, Full HD and lower resolution sources to nearly-UHD quality through a four-step process.

Along with the 78-inch version, Rajeev Bhutani also introduced the 65 and 55 inch curved UHD TVs.

Bhutani said Samsung’s Smart TVs come with quad core plus processors that help TVs turn on without delay and also easy multi-tasking with multiple screens. “Say someone is watching a football game and wants to know about a player. The user can launch a browser alongside the main screen and see the details,” Bhutani said.

The Smart TVs will have three panels, including separate panels for apps and multimedia. The TVs also come with screen capture, sound capture and cricket mode. In the cricket mode, the viewer can zoom in at a particular area of the screen.

Food ShowCase refrigerator launched

Samsung also launched a new model of the Food ShowCase refrigerator specifically adapted to the needs of the Indian consumers.

Launching the new version, Bhutani said when it came to accessing food from a refrigerator, Indian refrigerators were a maze. The ShowCase refrigerator has two sections. The first section - the ShowCase opens only the exterior door of the refrigerator and shows what is stored inside at a glance.

The refrigerator has three zones - the cooking zone (upper level), the family zone (middle level) and the kids zone (lower level). The lower cases are also detachable and can be removed and placed directly on the table. The ShowCase also features a metal cooling door that keeps cooled air within the refrigerator.

The second section - InnerCase - is the place for food that is needed to be stored for longer periods like vegetables, meat and fruit. The wine rack in the Food ShowCase allows users to store wine and other bottles so that perfectly chilled beverages are available any time.

“For the Indian market, we are also introducing a water and ice dispenser”, Bhutani said. The ice container can store up to 2.2 kg of fresh ice and has a transparent view, so that he user can see the amount of ice available.
