Singareni Collieries Company Ltd has announced the completion of a 21-km rail line to evacuate coal and a 44-km pipeline to supply water to the thermal power station.
The state-owned mining company invested about ₹766 crore to develop the 21-km rail stretch between Srirampur and Singareni thermal power station to evacuate coal and also the 44-km pipeline from the river Pranahitha to the power station, the latter to provide water for the power plant. The Colliery expects to begin trial runs of the rail line from July 15 and then use it to supply coal in an environment-friendly manner. The water pipeline has been completed to facilitate supply of about 2 TMC of water for the power plant.
According to Singareni, the coal supply for the power plant from the Srirampur mines was being made through 730 lorries (about 18,000 tonnes) per day and this would be now through the ₹460-crore rail line after the trial runs conclude. About 50 lakh tonnes of coal supply for the thermal power plant would now be possible through the rail line.
Following a review meeting, N Sridhar, Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL, informed that trial runs of both the rail line and pipeline would commence on July 15 and these would augur well for the power plant and have a positive impact on the environment.
The completion of the pipeline and supply of water from the Pranahitha river would be beneficial for the 1200 MW thermal power plant as also for the 800 MW expansion that the plant is in the process of undertaking.
