Tata Power plans to set up a 28.8-MW solar plant near Satara in Maharashtra this fiscal as a part of its strategy to meet its clean energy capacity target.
“This will be our second solar plant in Maharashtra. We will be spending over Rs 230 crore this fiscal for setting up the project,” company’s Executive Director (Finance) S. Ramakrishnan told PTI here.
Currently, the company has a 3-MW project at Mulshi in Maharashtra and a 25-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project at Mithapur in Gujarat.
Rooftop solar plant
Besides, its subsidiary, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd, has also commissioned a 1-MW grid connected rooftop solar power plant in Delhi.
Tata Power has also partnered Australia’s Sunengy to build the first floating solar plant at Mulshi.
The company has set a target of generating 26,000 MW by 2020 and intends to have 20-25 per cent contribution from clean power sources. It will also be adding 200 MW of wind energy this fiscal, Ramakrishnan said.
“Currently, we have an installed capacity of 376 MW and plants are spread across four states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. We will be adding another 200 MW in this fiscal,” he said.
