Expanding its footprint, coffee chain Tata Starbucks today opened its ninth outlet in the country with the inauguration of its latest cafe in South Delhi.

Commenting on the launch, Tata Starbucks Chief Executive Officer Avani Davda said, “Our customers in New Delhi have extended a very warm welcome to us and we are thrilled to open our second store in the city”.

Tata Starbucks Ltd, the 50:50 joint venture between Starbucks Coffee Company and Tata Global Beverages Ltd, today launched the latest outlet at Select City Walk Mall, the company said in a statement.

Spread over an area of over 2,000 sq ft, the store has a seating capacity of over 70 people, it added.

Starbucks had entered the Indian market in October 2012 and currently operates five stores in Mumbai and four outlets in New Delhi.

Earlier this month, Tata Global Beverages Vice Chairman R K Krishna Kumar had said the JV will meet its target of opening 50 outlets of the coffee chain in India by this year, a delay of one year from the original schedule.

Last month when Starbucks Coffee President (China and Asia Pacific) John Culver had visited India, he remained non-committal on by when it would be able reach the target but said the country will become one of its top five global markets in the long-term.

During a joint press conference in January last year, Krishna Kumar along with Culver had announced plans to open 50 cafes in the country in 2012, entailing an investment of Rs 400 crore.
