Tata Steel Ltd's sales fell by one per cent for the July-September quarter but its crude steel output for the period grew by the same margin over the corresponding last quarter.
Tata Steel reported total sales of 1.64 million tonnes for the September quarter as against 1.66 million tonnes in the corresponding last year. In the April-June quarter, Tata Steel had reported sales of 1.59 million tonnes. For the first half of current fiscal, Tata Steel reported sales of 3.24 million tonnes as against 3.06 million in corresponding last year.
Production of crude steel grew to 1.74 million tonnes from 1.72 million tonnes a year ago. For the first half, crude steel production was up 5.3 per cent to 3.53 million tonnes from 3.35 tonnes in the year-ago period. Tata Steel shares ended 2.84 per cent lower to Rs 438.40 on the BSE on Friday.
