It took just over Two Minutes for as many as 60,000 Maggi noodle WelcomeKits to fly off Snapdeal shelves.
The online marketplace on Thursday said that it sold out the first batch of 60,000 WelcomeKits under five minutes of the Maggi Flash Sale going live. Each WelcomeKit contains 12 packs of Maggi, a 2016 Maggi calendar, a Maggi fridge magnet, Maggi post-cards and a ‘Welcome Back’ letter.
Next sale on Nov 16 Snapdeal has tied up with Nestle to re-launch Maggi Noodles Masala online, for which registrations opened on November 9. Nestle has also re-launched its popular product in select outlets in 100 towns through 300 distributors. The next batch of Maggi WelcomeKits will go on sale from November 16.
On June 5, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had ordered a pan-India ban on the company's noodles on the grounds that they were “unsafe and hazardous” due to the presence of lead, allegedly beyond permissible limits. After a five-month legal battle, Nestle said last week that the masala version of Maggi noodles will hit retail shelves after having cleared all tests ordered by the Bombay High Court at three accredited laboratories.
“There has been much anticipation for the return of one of India’s favourite brands… We have witnessed a phenomenal response to this sale from customers across the country,” said Tony Navin, Senior Vice-President, Partnerships and Strategic initiatives, Snapdeal.
According to Nestle, online sale of Maggi would help expand the reach. The company was, however, categorical that it would not, as of now, cater to customers in Bihar, Punjab, Odisha, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh as it is still to get clearances in these States.
