Two of NTPC Ltd’s operating units — Talcher Thermal Power Station and Talcher Super Thermal Power Station — were ranked among the 25 best power stations in the country.

The ranking was done in terms of plant load factor (PLF) for the April-June quarter of the first fiscal. Both the units are located in the Eastern Region II of NTPC.

The Eastern Region comprises two operating stations in Angul district of Odisha. Three more units are under construction in Sundargarh and Dhenkanal districts of Odisha and in the Kokrajhar district of Assam.

According to a release issued by NTPC, the Talcher Thermal Power Station generated nearly 972 million units with a PLF of 97 per cent during the first quarter of 2012-13. It was ranked sixth.

During the period, the Talcher Super Thermal Power Station, ranked 19th, produced 6,079 million units with a PLF of 93 per cent.
