Manju Lodha, mother of warring Lodha brothers – Abhishek and Abhinandan Lodha — has written a letter addressing them, urging them to stop their dispute immediately, and focus on their business growth and families.

“I request you to stop all your disputes immediately,” she said in the letter, which was made public by Macrotech Developers in a filing to the exchanges. Earlier this year, Abhishek Lodha, CEO of Macrotech Developers, filed a trademark dispute against his brother, who runs House of Abhinandan Lodha, directing the latter to cease using the ‘Lodha’ name in any form for their projects. Under the Bombay High Court’s direction, the matter has gone for mediation.

“Your father and I have discussed at length the claims by both of you with respect to the shareholding and ownership of each other’s businesses,” Manju Lodha’s letter said. “The final arrangement within our family was documented in our Amended Family Agreement dated 31st March 2017. We confirm that both of you have no right of any form in the other brother’s business or assets or shareholding.”

In a statement, Abhishek Lodha said that he respected the letter and would abide by it. He went on, “The 2017 agreement clearly states that the Lodha real estate business and its IPR including trade name “Lodha” is owned by, and will exclusively be used by, Macrotech / Lodha Developers.”

Referring to his brother he said, “I hope that he brings an end to this dispute by implementing the 2017 agreement and starts using a distinct and separate identity which does not lead to any confusion with our highly recognised and valuable brand name — Lodha.”

A spokesperson for Lodha Ventures (of Abhinandan Lodha) countered, “Since the issues are under mediation, we would not like to state anything else at this stage,” but said that it was disappointing that a letter “addressed by a mother to her own children is being shared with people outside the immediate family for ulterior motives and to create a false narrative.”

The statement said that Abhinandan continued to maintain his stance that family matters should not be settled in public.

It said that Abhinadan Lodha hoped that his family honours all the commitments made to him.

Bad times

In her letter, Manju Lodha said their family was passing through bad times. Directing them not to fight or say anything wrong about each other, she exhorted, “you have no right against each other’s business or shareholding” and “neither of you have to give anything to each other.”

“As a mother, whatever I own, I will definitely leave behind for both of you.”
