No surprises here. Bollywood ruled the charts when it came to top video searches — both online and on mobile in India in 2011.

But surprisingly, Kolaveri di — the fastest growing viral hit of the year with 25 million views in a single month — did not figure in the numero uno position in the annual top ten list.

According to data released by VuClip, an independent mobile video company, The Dirty Picture was the most watched video on mobile phones in India. And, rather than the original Kolaveri by Dhanush (which got a mere 56,000 views), it was the version sung by singer Sonu Nigam's four year old son Nevaan that got more clicks — nearly three lakh views! Originals were clearly left behind!

But data shared by Google's video sharing site YouTube showed that Don 2's teaser promo was the most viewed video of the year.

On the site, which claims 23 million unique users in India alone, while Hindi movies got a lot of views, Apple's iPhone concept features video too figured in the top ten list.

In the music videos list, Kolaveri di figured only on seventh spot, with Jennifer Lopez claiming top honours.

But the mobile video trends had some surprises. News clips scored pretty high here, with tsunami videos from Japan getting a huge number of views.

Analysing the mobile video viewing trends, Salman Hussain, Vuclip's Vice-President, Business Development and Managing Director, India & West Asia, said, “Findings of our year-ender trend analysis for India re-affirm our belief that viewers here love Bollywood and regional cinema. However, the astounding 24 lakh mobile video views for the tsunami in Japan show that in today's networked world, geographies melt away while sending wishes to fellow brethren in any part of the globe.”

According to him, “These trends also hold great lessons for mobile content providers and marketers — videos with a strong visual element typically generate more interest among mobile users.”
