The stand-off between the permanent workers and management of Yamaha Motor India continued for the fifth day.
As BusinessLine went to press, the workers were continuing the sit-in strike at the Oragadam plant near Chennai even as a Madras High Court Order directed people to hold protests 200 metre away from the factory premises.
“There are about 350 workers on sit-in protest inside the factory and an equal number of workers are on strike near the factory gate. We don’t know what could be the police action. They might even plan a midnight eviction. But we will continue our protest,” a member of the protesting group told BusinessLine.
Meanwhile, a reconciliation talk between management and workers in the presence of a Labour Department official was held on Wednesday. It is learned that the meeting continued late into the evening without any solution. The strike started after two staff members were terminated in connection with an attempt to form a labour union.
Yamaha declined to comment on the latest developments.
