Mr Aseervatham Achary, a former aide of the then Telecom Minister Mr A. Raja and the CBI's star witness, on Monday denied allegations that he was deposing against Mr Raja under pressure from the CBI due to a ‘disproportionate assets case against him (Mr Achary)'.
In his statement before a Special Court, he also said, “It is wrong to suggest that I was unhappy with Mr Raja as he did not promote me in politics,” adding that, “It is wrong to suggest that for these reasons, I chose to become a false witness against him (Mr Raja) for prosecution.” Further, Mr Achary said he chose to be a whistle-blower the day the CBI called and questioned him.
