Swan Telecom on Friday told the Special Court that it had not conspired with former Telecom Minister, Mr A Raja, for getting any prior information to obtain a 2G spectrum licence. Swan, an accused in the 2G spectrum case, said it was wrong on the part of the CBI to allege that Mr Raja gave it prior information on the amount of the demand draft to be deposited as entry fees.
Swan told the Special Court that other than itself, companies including Unitech and Tata were also ready with the drafts for Rs 1,659 crore on January 10, 2008, in a bid to get the 2G licence. The company said the recommendations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India against revising the existing entry fees of Rs 1,659 crore and the Government accepting the TRAI's suggestions was information that was out in the public domain. There were also media reports on the requirement of a draft for Rs 1,659 crore, Swan said, adding that, therefore it cannot be said that Mr Raja conspired with it to gave prior information on the draft amount.
