The inflation based on consumer price index (CPI) for agricultural and rural labourers fell in April as compared to the previous month.

The point-to-point rate of inflation based on the CPI-AL and CPI-RL decreased from 12.64 per cent and 12.62 per cent in March, 2013 to 12.32 per cent and 12.15 per cent in April, respectively, according to an official release.

The index varied from state to state and in case of agricultural labourers, it recorded an increase between one points and 13 points in 18 states and a decrease of two points each in two states.

Haryana with 784 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 557 points stood at the bottom.

In case of rural labourers, it recorded an increase between 1 point and 12 points in 17 states and a decrease of two points each in two states.

Again, Haryana with 779 points topped the index table, whereas Himachal Pradesh state with the index level of 587 points stood at the bottom.

Tamil Nadu registered maximum increase of 13 and 12 points respectively in the twin series, mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, jowar, bajra, ragi, meat goat, onion, tamarind, vegetables and fruits, tea readymade, bidi, tobacco leaf, firewood, barber charges and washerman charges.

On the other hand, Assam and Meghalaya registered decline of two points each for CPI-AL and CPI-RL due to decrease in the prices of rice, onion, dry chillies, vegetable and fruits, tobacco leaf and pan leaf.
