BIG AIMS, the animation and visual effects arm of Reliance Animation, today entered into a “strategic collaboration” with Annamalai University to introduce a degree programme in ‘Animation & Visual Effects Film Making'.

Mr Ashish S.K., Chief Executive Officer, Reliance Animation, said at a press conference here today that on the one hand animation industry was securing major jobs from abroad, but on the other, it was finding it difficult to get talent.

“We are not able to grow exponentially because of lack of skills,” Mr Ashish said.

Detailed course

He said that although there were many institutes offering training in animation, the need is really of a more thorough three-year course. “Animation is not just manipulation of images,” he said, adding that technology can only be an enabler and that the training should be in story telling, rather than just software.

The Annamalai University, based at Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, will conduct the exams and award the degrees.

Upon completion of the course, the graduate would be able to earn anywhere between Rs 25,000 and Rs 40,000 a month, Mr Ashish said.

The course, however, costs between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 a month, depending upon the facilities the student chooses to use.
