The Supreme Court said on Friday that it will hold the hearing on a daily basis from April 19 on a petition filed by the Tata Group Chairman, Mr Ratan Tata.

Mr Tata had moved the court seeking investigation into the leakage of recordings of his alleged conversations with corporate lobbyist Ms Niira Radia and ensuring that their further publication be stopped. Senior advocate Mr Harish Salve, representing Mr Tata, had told the court that the right to privacy guaranteed by the Constitution was violated due to the leakage of these private conversations. The court had asked the Government and magazines – Outlook and Open which had published the alleged conversations – to reply to Mr Tata's petition.

It had also issued notices to the Home Ministry, Finance Ministry, CBI and Income-Tax Department asking for their replies on the issue. All of them had responded to the notices.

Mr Salve had said Mr Tata has not challenged any statutory authority's right to record private telephone conversations or their power to use such conversations for investigative purposes.
