Thiruvananthapuram set to host Global Ayurveda Festival

The State Capital will host the Global Ayurveda Festival, purported to be the biggest event ever of its kind to kick off in the State, from February 9 to 14 next year.

The event will package a host of programmes ranging from international seminar, expert clinics to exhibitions, a spokesman for the organisers said here.

An organising committee has been set up with well-known physician Dr P. K. Warrier of the Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala as Chairman. Dr G. G. Gangadharan is the Working Chairman.

The Minister for Health, Mr Adoor Prakash, will release the brochure for the event at a function to be held here on Thursday. Mr Palode Ravi, MLA, Chairman of the Reception Committee, will receive the first copy of the brochure

The Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) is the main organisers for the event. The Ayurveda Department of the State Government will be co-sponsor.

The event is being held with a view to promoting the Ayurveda system of medicine at the national and international levels and restoring its old glory in Kerala, its own cradle.

VARIED PROGRAMMES

A host of professional and industry bodies such as the Ayurveda Medical Officers Association and Ayurveda Medicine Manufacturers Association are also partnering the event.

Scheduled to be held at the Kanakakunnu Palace, the seminar would see international Ayurveda experts rub shoulders with renowned practitioners.

Ayurveda students' meet, workshops, outreach programmes, and a job fair would be major highlights.

A grand exhibition to showcase the latest in the research and development fields, medicinal plants and herbal products would be another attraction.

An Ayurveda food fete and expert deliberations on current industry practices and regulatory affairs also will form part of the six-day festival.

SPOT CONSULTATIONS

The health expo will feature 300 stalls displaying the advancements in and activities of the Ayurveda sector in the country.

Ayurveda medicines, medicinal plants, herbal cosmetics, medical devices, books, and journals will be part of the expo to be attended by both Government agencies and private hospitals.

Healthcare practitioners will be available for consultations during the event.

Different universities, medical colleges and research organisations will put up various programmes to ramp up the public awareness about this branch of medicine.

‘Ayush' (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, and Homeopathy) clinics, consultation by traditional practitioners, Ayurveda tourism stalls, Ayurveda food courts along with diet counselling, and display of medicinal plants for herbal formulations will be arranged.
