A good demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction.
Dust sale
In Sale No. 12 dust category, the quantity on offer for CTC grades was 8,71,000 kg. Market for good liquoring appreciated with longer margins to the tune of Rs 10 to Rs 15 and sometimes above.
Teas with browner leaf and faulty liquors were dearer by Rs 3 to Rs 5 and sometimes more.
In the Orthodox grades, the quantity on offer was 7,500 kg. Market for Highgrowns was firm, while it was dearer for Mediums.
In the best CTC dusts, PD varieties were quoted at Rs 118/133, RD grades fetched Rs 135/170, SRD ruled at Rs 139/166 and SFD at Rs 140/166.
Leaf sale
The leaf sale also witnessed good demand and the quantity on offer in the Orthodox varieties was 81,000 kg.
Market for Highgrown Brokens and Whole Leaf was irregular and tended to ease. Fannings from the same origin was firm to dearer following quality.
Medium Well Made Clean Black Bolder Brokens and Tippy Grades barely remained steady. Others were irregular and sometimes easier. Corresponding Fannings were dearer.
A good demand was also witnessed for CTC category and the quantity on offer was 91,000 kg. Market for Good Liquoring Teas was dearer by Rs 2 to Rs 3 and sometimes more, while others were irregular and tended to ease. Poorer teas witnessed some withdrawals.
Exporters and upcountry buyers were active.
In the dust category, Glendale BOPD (S) quoted the best price of Rs 179 followed by Injipara (Prm) RD at Rs 170. In the leaf varieties, Chamraj Green FOP (S) fetched the best price of Rs 445 followed by Goldsland Select BPS at Rs 256.
