The third national conference on Agro-Informatics and Precision Agriculture (AIPA 2012) will be held in Hyderabad during August 1-3. The event is being organised by the Indian Society of Agricultural Information Technology (INSAIT) in collaboration with the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) and the University of Agriculture Sciences, Raichur.
Precision agriculture employs technologies such as information and communication, geospatial technologies such as geographical information systems, global positioning systems, remote sensing, sensors and wireless sensor networks to understand soil dynamics and crop growth patterns, etc.
It also involves identification, analyses and management of variability in soils and crops. This is expected to translated into profits, sustainability in agriculture practises and protection of the environment, a press release said.
The key speakers in the meet would be Dr Rajiv Khosla from the Colorado State University, US; Dr Kamal Alameh from the Edith Cowan University, Australia; Dr V.K Dhadwal, Director, National Remote Sensing Agency, and Mr Rikin Gandhi, Chief Executive Officer, Digital Green.
About 200 researchers working in the areas of precision agriculture and agro-informatics will make presentations and take part in the discussions. ICT for natural resource management, supply chain and agri research and education; precision forestry, horticulture, crop protection and livestock management are some sub-areas.
