Dust storms or thunderstorms have been forecast for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, north Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh for the next two days.
This would once again put a cap on the heating trends for the landmass.
Sustained heating must take place if only to ensure the formation of the seasonal low-pressure over land, one of the crucial monsoon enablers.
PRESSURE GRADIENT
The seasonal ‘low’ sets up the temperature/pressure gradient for the monsoon winds to rush in from the southwestern coast.
A prevailing western disturbance, which is instrumental for the non-seasonal weather, had crossed in across the border and was sitting pretty over Kashmir on Sunday.
The system would continue to affect the western Himalayan region for three more days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in an update.
Rain or thundershowers has been forecast at many places over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and at a few places over Uttarakhand on Monday.
The immediate trigger for weather here is a cyclonic circulation each persisting over west Rajasthan and southwest Uttar Pradesh.
INDUCED SYSTEMS
These are systems induced by parent western disturbances when they travel east with a deeper than normal amplitude to the south (southwest Rajasthan-Gujarat).
The one over southwest Uttar Pradesh had been left behind by the parent disturbance that has already bypassed it away to the east and out of the country.
A third cyclonic circulation hung over Meghalaya. It is expected to trigger thunder squalls over entire northeast, Gangetic West Bengal and Orissa for next two days.
Meanwhile, a north-to-south trough ran down from north Chhattisgarh to south Tamil Nadu across Andhra Pradesh.
RAINS FOR SOUTH
This is another potential formation around which thunderstorms would line up along the ‘command region’ down to the south.
Thundershowers have been forecast at many places over the Northeastern States, at a few places over West Bengal, Sikkim, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
In the south, similar forecast is valid for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema.
Rain has also been forecast for one or two places over Lakshdaweep, coastal and north interior Karnataka and rest Andhra Pradesh.
